19.5 Billion Impressions: Digital Storytelling, Big Business, and Buying an Airline

with Hunter Peterson

2026-06-22 Update: This conversation with Hunter Peterson was recorded before the bankruptcy court bidding process discussed in the interview had concluded. Since then, plans have changed -  Hunter and his team are now focused on building a brand-new airline rather than acquiring an existing one.

One thing I’ve learned from talking with entrepreneurs over the years is that the path to success is rarely a straight line. Sometimes the most exciting opportunities come from adapting, pivoting, and embracing a new vision. I’m so excited to see where this next chapter takes him, and I’m super grateful he shared his journey with us. I’m looking forward to welcoming him back to the podcast and hearing how things progress. Enjoy the episode!

Every now and then, I talk to a voice actor whose business path goes so far outside the traditional recording booth that it completely redefines what it means to be a modern entrepreneur.

In the latest episode of the VO Boss Podcast, I sat down with a longtime friend of the show, Hunter Peterson. You might know Hunter's voice and on-camera presence from massive digital media channels like Limeade, Flork of Cows, or SCP Explained—content that has generated billions of views across YouTube and TikTok. He’s worked with iconic global brands like Google, Amazon, Nike, and Toyota, and even served as the Head of Production for Beast Philanthropy alongside Mr. Beast.

But his latest venture has captured the attention of the entire business world. Hunter is the mastermind behind the ultra-viral movement "Let’s Buy Spirit" (Spirit 2.0). What started as a strategic digital video has ballooned into a serious corporate bid in bankruptcy court to purchase the remaining assets of Spirit Airlines, generating an astronomical 19.5 billion impressions and 294 million views.

We caught Hunter right in the middle of a live phase-two funding round to talk about public equity, navigating the SEC, and how the core mechanics of voice acting and digital storytelling can help you command a movement.

Chapter Summaries:

Chapter 1: The Ultimate Full-Circle Moment (00:01 – 02:38)

Anne introduces content producer, voice actor, and Nucleus founder Hunter Peterson, highlighting his unbelievable digital media metrics. Hunter shares that being on the show is a major full-circle moment for his career. When he was a rising talent first exploring voiceover six years ago, the VO Boss Podcast was one of the core resources he used to build his industry foundation.

Chapter 2: The Improv Announcer & The Netflix Deal (02:39 – 05:56)

Hunter walks through his diverse creative background. Attending an arts-and-sciences public high school that favored an improv team over a football team, Hunter became the designated announcer at age 14 due to his naturally mature vocal depth. He went on to attend USC Film School, eventually producing an independent feature film that was successfully sold to Netflix and Shutter. After reevaluating his trajectory in 2016, he dove headfirst into professional voice acting, experiencing the typical mix of continuous heartbreak and massive victories that defines an entertainment career.

Chapter 3: Flying at Age Three & Childhood Heroes (05:57 – 11:34)

The podcast gets interrupted by a live DocuSign alert as Hunter locks in a major investment partner for Spirit 2.0. Hunter traces his deep obsession with aviation back to a core childhood memory: being three years old in a car seat while his late father guided his hands onto the yoke of a Balanca aircraft. Hunter discusses his childhood business inspirations, including JetBlue founder David Neeleman and Virgin Atlantic’s Richard Branson, outlining how commercial aviation historically shrunk global prices to bring human beings together.

Chapter 4: Hating Spirit to Buying Spirit — The 24-Hour Bet (11:35 – 16:58)

Hunter pulls back the curtain on a hilarious irony: he used to open-source critique and constantly make fun of Spirit Airlines. However, after losing a streaming bet last year, he forced himself to fly Spirit for 24 hours straight. That challenge completely transformed his perspective. He witnessed firsthand the incredible, hard-working flight attendants, pilots, and baggage crews who kept everyday families connected to milestones for a fraction of the legacy airlines' costs. He contrasts Spirit’s high-volume, low-cost utility with legacy carriers, identifying corporate mismanagement and hubris as the source of Spirit's financial collapse.

Chapter 5: 19.5 Billion Impressions & Crashing the Database (16:59 – 25:51)

As a seasoned content strategist, Hunter explains the exact math that launched the movement. After waking up to news of Spirit’s bankruptcy, he calculated that if a small percentage of American adults pledged just the average cost of a $45 ticket, they could cover Spirit's debt obligations. He launched a video across TikTok and Instagram with a strict metrics test: if it hit 100k views in an hour, it would go viral. It did 190k. Within hours of launching the website, it accumulated millions in financial pledges, ultimately crashing his custom-built database at 3:00 AM.

Chapter 6: The Pivot to Phase Two & SEC Regulations (25:52 – 56:30)

Following a quick pause to handle an urgent, live entrepreneurial fire, Hunter breaks down the intense legal compliance required to purchase a regulated airline asset. While he initially envisioned a pure community co-op, federal bankruptcy courts, the SEC, the FAA, and the DOT require strict financial structures. Hunter outlines the transition into Phase Two: a structured raise utilizing tens of thousands of accredited investors to secure the vital Part 121 Airline Operating Certificate (AOC). He touches on his media training, facing public scrutiny, and his vision to challenge traditional private equity with sustainable "public equity."

Chapter 7: The Hard Groundwork & Digital Storytelling (56:31 – End)

Hunter details the gritty, unglamorous side of bankruptcy acquisition—negotiating for gates, slots, and operating certificates while the general public assumes a movement is "quiet." He leaves the VO Boss audience with a powerful piece of business advice: you do not have to be perfect to start. Hunter and Anne lay the groundwork for a future episode focusing entirely on the technical mechanics of viral content engineering and digital storytelling.

Top 10 Boss Takeaways

  1. Imperfection is a launchpad: Do not wait for a perfect plan, a flawless website, or complete certainty to execute an idea. Action creates data, and a crashing database is simply proof of market traction.

  2. Lean into the multi-hyphenate career: Being a "Jack of all trades" is no longer a liability. Combining voice acting, audio engineering, film production, and digital strategy creates an unpredictable entrepreneurial edge.

  3. Improv builds vocal presence: Training on an improv stage teaches you how to think quickly on your feet, manage unexpected studio variables, and command an audience using authentic vocal control.

  4. Experience the things you critique: True business insight often hides behind your personal biases. Hunter went from mocking an airline to bidding on its assets simply because he stepped onto the aircraft to experience it himself.

  5. Humanize your operation: Large conglomerates fail to connect because they are faceless corporate entities. Putting an accountable, transparent human face at the tip of the spear instantly rallies public support.

  6. Understand the unwritten backstory: Viral content isn’t accidental; it’s engineered. Know your demographic metrics, set definitive traffic benchmarks, and study how to structure an emotional hook across digital platforms.

  7. Play by the regulatory rules: When your business scales into highly regulated industries, your passion must align with compliance. Respect the frameworks set by the SEC, FAA, or your local industry boards to protect your assets.

  8. Vet the people, not just the entity: A major business misstep often comes from auditing a company’s paperwork instead of its human leadership. Look closely at the character of your partners before signing a contract.

  9. Silence means hard work is happening: When a brand or creative project goes quiet on social media, it doesn't mean the movement is dead. Real growth happens behind closed doors when it's time to execute the unglamorous logistics.

  10. Shift toward public equity: Sustainable modern business should focus on community ownership. Look for ways to provide real upside, representation, and equity to the people who helped build your brand from the ground up.
