Top 10 Takeaways

Quick-share concepts from today’s episode:

  1. The most important part of an audition is following directions. #VOBOSS

  2. Have the mindset of a casting director. What makes you like or dislike a read?

  3. Set up an accountability group with peers. Practice auditioning + casting for each other. #VOBOSS

  4. Impress casting directors by being your best self, not by trying to please them. #VOBOSS

  5. When there is a reference in audition descriptions, don’t impersonate. Study the person’s essence and blend that into your performance. #VOBOSS

  6. You want to stand out, but be sure you are not ignoring directions on the audition. #VOBOSS

  7. Diversify your reads when an audition calls for more than one. You don’t want your A & B takes to sound the same. #VOBOSS

  8. Put yourself in the copywriters’ shoes. They wrote with a voice in mind, and sometimes are the ones doing the final casting!

  9. Spend time analyzing + digesting the script so you don’t fall into traps or deliver a one-dimensional audition.

  10. Respect the copy. Every word is there for a reason. #VOBOSS
